Fish Balls Pepper Soup

In Guinea, these fish balls are sold everywhere, in the streets, at work, at school and in every corner of capital. I love these especially when I’m pregnant.

The fish balls are very spicy and also cooked in a spicy soup. If you love spicy food then this is going to be your next favorite food to eat.

Ingredients

  • 1 Mackerel fish or any type of fish
  • 1 onion
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • ½ cup sliced green onion
  • 1 tbsp ginger
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • Fresh chilies, to taste
  • 1 tsp fresh black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ cup of basil leaves
  • ½ cup of parsley
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp corn flour
  • Sorrel leaves or lime juice or tamarind

Direction

Clean the fish cut the head and remove the spine (keep them aside). 

Put the fish fillet in any type of food processor and grind until done,

Add peanut butter and mix well with the fish.

Remove and set aside

Mix the black pepper, garlic cloves, ginger, green onion, Fresh chilies, onion, basil leaves and parsley

 Mix well and divide into two parts.

Put the first parts of the mixture with ground fish. And keep the other part aside.

Add salt and the flour to the fish mixture and remove from the food processor.

Oil your hands and grab the fish mixture to form some small balls.

Put the fish head and spine in a cooking pan with 1 to 1.5 liter of water.

Add in the spicy mixture and bring to a boil.

When the soup starts to boil, add in the fish balls, the oseille leaves and salt to your taste.

Cover and cook for 15 to 20 minutes.

Serve hot and enjoy!
