Beef Biryani Recipe

This week, I’m going to share my recipe for Biryani with beef, it’s simple, easy and delicious. Biryani is originated from India but is widely eaten in east Africa too.

Ingredients

For the beef:

  • 1kg beef
  • 1 tsp. of ground cumin
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  •  1 tsp. ginger and garlic paste
  •  ½ stick of cinnamon,
  • Salt

For the fried onions:

  • 3 big onions, sliced
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 200 ml vegetable oil

For the curry Sauce:

  • 3 fresh tomatoes, mashed or crushed
  • 1 tbsp. tomato paste
  • 1 tsp. cumin seed
  • 1 tsp garlic and ginger paste
  • ½ cup sliced parsley
  • 1/3  cup sliced mint leaves
  • 2 green chilies, sliced
  • ½ cinnamon stick
  • 3  cloves
  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • ½ tsp. turmeric powder
  • 1 bay leaves
  • 1 tsp. Garam masala (optional)
  • Salt

For the rice:

  • 1 kg Basmati Rice or any long grain rice, washed
  • 1 tsp. of salt
  • 1 bay leave
  • 2 gloves
  • 4 tbsp. yellow food coloring

Step 1:  Add the meat in a pot with ground cumin, black pepper, ginger and garlic paste, cinnamon stick, salt to your taste and cover with water.

Cook the meat cook until done, set aside.

Step 2:  Heat the oil until hot and add the sliced onions with salt and fry until brown. Remove and set aside.

Step 3: In the same oil you fried the onions, add cumin seed, ginger and garlic paste and sauté for a minute.

Add mashed tomatoes, tomato paste and stir well.

 Then add parsley, mint leaves, green chilies, cinnamon stick, whole cloves, black pepper, turmeric powder, bay leaves and garam masala which is optional. 

Salt to your taste and cover with water. Cook for 15 minutes, then return the meat to the curry sauce and let it simmer for 5 min. Remove ad reserve.

Step 4: In a large pot, bring water to boil, add the rice that has been washed with salt, bay leaves and cloves. Cook the rice until half done. Remove and set aside.

Step 5: In a big pot alternate layers of rice. Food coloring, curry sauce and fried onion.

Cover, reduce the heat on very low and let it cook for 30 minutes. Gently mix together before serving.

Serve hot and enjoy!
